Hello!

Last week was pretty typical—for the most part, nothing crazy happened! Because of that, I thought this might be a good time to give you a general sense of what our week looks like.

I’ll start on a Tuesday. We’re usually pretty busy on Tuesdays, so we don’t usually see friends or go anywhere out and about. The farthest we usually go during the day is to the corner store.

This is a picture of something at the corner store (but also in lots of other stores) that’s still puzzling us. Pictured is a carton in which you can put your “returnable” two-liter plastic bottles. Somehow, doing this is supposed to benefit us, I think? The program is advertised on TV and everything, and Coca-Cola clearly has some vested interest in people returning these bottles.

The problem is that when we’ve asked people at the store what the point of this program is (since you can just recycle plastic bottles at home), they either explain it in confusing Spanish or don’t seem to know. I think we maybe get a discount? Or maybe the price of these is lower always, but that seems odd to me since they’d get no guarantee of customers returning them. I’m wondering if the bottles get sent back to Coke and are really recycled—you can tell the plastic is higher-quality and thicker.

Anyway, we have no idea, but we’ve been doing it so far when we get a two-liter!
